News Race 20X250 Awarding Ceremony in Tacloban City
Despite the frequent weather disturbance experienced in Visayas, the awarding of the “Race 20X250” commenced on January 4, 2018 at the Municipal Training Center in Tacloban City. The gloomy weather did not stop 153 Taclobanons to participate and witness the awarding ceremonies. Dr. Antonis Malagardis, Program Director of GIZ, Mr. Kenn Ramirez, Vice-President of Pru Life UK  and Tacloban City Information Officer Mrs. Bernardita “Tita Bering” Valenzuela hosted the event.
Kudos for the solid support given by the City Government of Tacloban to participate and promote microinsurance through online communities by joining Empowering Filipinos. Our appreciation especially goes to “Tita Bering” for organizing and ensuring the success of the event.  Almost 90% of the winners came from the Tacloban Online Community who took home 20 Lenovo Tablets.  Amongst the Top 5 are Hermenia Peneda with 306 referred members, followed by Jan Naraha (297), Ronald Calipara (286), Bernardita Valenzuela (282) and Ma. Leysa Teraza (280). The Lenovo Tablets were personally awarded by Dr. Antonis Malagardis to the race winners.

Aside from the awarding, the concept of community building through the use of empowering Filipinos was reiterated to the participants. It encouraged more and more attendees to be advocates of their own local communities in Tacloban. With their heightened enthusiam, we were able to spark the interest of more Taclobanons to join and support the race to increase financial awareness by registering in Empowering Filipinos. Thus, the contest was extended for another month and we will be expecting more active participation from this City.
To make things more interesting and lively, the participants showcased their talents by singing and dancing. Indeed, Taclobanons show great resilience and positivity, a powerful trait that can get them through all storms. It only proves that “Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the World”.
